Snake Valley & District Rural Fire Brigade
25 Jul 2014 by Alec Carson
It has been a busy time for Snake Valley and District CFA, in the last six months.
With some hard work we were lucky enough to receive an emergency service grant to replace our brigade community tanker, (tanker 2), and also purchase a new Forward command vehicle.
Our new tanker is a state of the art fire fighting appliance, carrying 3000lts of water and crew protection sprayers for our safety. The biggest comfort is having 5 seats in the cab, no more cold nights on the back coming home from a fire.
We took possession of our new Hilux FCV just before the last fire season, and lucky we did. We had not yet got our blues and tunes, yet it ferried crews to and from Horsham and Blackrange for weeks on end.
Our Nissan Ultralight also spent a couple of weeks away at those fires, and was in need of a good detailing on return.
One of our members served for the brigade at the Yallourn Mine fires, in which we thank him greatly. I think it was a good experience for him using his Breathing Apparatuses.
The brigade held its AGM in early June, with some changes to our lieutenants. On behalf of all our members I would like to thank Jim Brown, Russell Schmidt and Aaron Cutler for their service, and welcome Kevin Gale, Phillip Brown and Jeremy Humber for standing up to the challenge.
We have set some big goals for the year ahead to work towards, and we hope for a quiet fire season this summer.
Cheers, Ant Baker
